As much I liked the main actors in Endeavour, the production values in the final seasons seemed to get a little cheesy and shoestring. The police station was strangely unpopulated, for example, and a weird space to boot.

Allow me to recommend Rowan Atkinson's Maigret, available on Kanopy, available for free through your library if you haven't already encountered it. A departure from Mr Bean, but Atkinson's terrific.

I've been watching Maigret lately, myself, and would agree that it's worthy of your recommendation.

I reluctantly agree with you about the last season. It seemed a bit contrived in order to wrap things up. The weird churchyard scene with the gun made little sense. As to Atkinson's Maigret, I too enjoyed it. I will cover the three versions of Maigret that I've watched sometime.

excellent reminders of the richness of PBS offerings over the years. Agree that Endeavour had its moments but lacks compared to its predecessor but staying away from Grantchester!

I've only seen a couple of the original Morse series, but hope to make my way through them, when I can. Meanwhile I received my complete box set of all of the books in the series, last week. I love the writing. Like you, I watched the final episode of ENDEAVOR, recently. I liked it. It's challenging to seamlessly merge the prequel with the original series, to be sure. I agree that the actors bring different interpretations to the character, but I'm not sure that I think Thaw did it better. In fairness, as I've said, I've only seen a couple of the originals. Shaun Evans erudite character seems a natural fit. It was a very cool nod to THAW to see his image reflected in Evan's rear view mirror.

The series opened with a nod to Thaw while, if I remember correctly, Endeavour was riding in a car.
