Just watched the first two episodes of Acorn TV’s new Dagliesh series, begun in 2021 and this one based on P.D. James’ Shroud for a Nightingale (written in 1971). A five-part version had previously been made in 1983 as part of a series drawn from her books and starring Roy Marsden. The new version takes unnecessary liberites with the novel, including gratuitioius sex and a “happy” ending not in the original. A pale shadow of the 1983 version. If you’ like to see Shroud for a Nightingale, look for the earlier version. My review of that series will be up ahead.
