Just watched Blackshore, a detective show set in Ireland. We’re going there this summer so I’m on an Ireland kick. DI Fia Lucey is one tough cookie as she returns to solve a murder in the town where her own family was killed 20 years before. Six episodes that can be found on Acorn TV and also Kanopy. Dipped into as well Single-Handed (also on Acorn), about a lone member of the Garda Síochána (“Guardians of the Peace,” the mostly unarmed Irish national police). A uniformed police sargent, he serves somewhere on the western coast so remote he is the only law enforcement around. I’ll probably keep dipping into it as our trip approaches. The scenary is lovely.
Speaking of Ireland and great scenary, I can’t resist mentioning the entertaining non-mystery, The Problem with People. A 2023 comedy about a trans-atlantic family feud. Colm Meaney of former Star Trek fame plays the Irish side of the feud and Paul Reiser the American.
Finally, to complete the Irish tour, I can refer again to Jack Taylor, set in Galway.
